Dr. Holt graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. She then received a Master's Degree in Communications from the University of Houston Main Campus where she taught public speaking courses.
While completing her master's thesis, she worked as a writer in Austin. After a short time abroad, she returned to Texas to pursue her career in medicine, graduating with a doctorate in medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch.
She continued in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the university for residency training. She spent part of her final year of residency working at the Menninger Clinic in Houston in the Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) and Eating Disorders programs.
Dr. Holt is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has completed additional training from the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, forensic training from the Capacity for Justice, and Skills Training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Dr.Holt 's presentations in and around the area have covered topics such as peripartum mood disorders, psychotropic medications in children and adolescents, the interplay of hormones and neurotransmitters, approaches to working with clients with ADHD, Post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicide prevention.
She has been involved with family education and fund raising efforts for the Gulf Coast National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
